Course and Leaner Description of “Doing Time Training”
Doing Time training is a professional course for mental health providers newly hired to work in the Harris County Jail. This face-to-face and online course takes about eight hours to complete and is typically taken over a period of 4 days in 2 hours increments. This course is taken along with other relevant topics as a part of the New Employee Orientation Training for employees. The goal of Doing Time training is to educate and prepare mental health professionals on the correctional work environment. Training is split into seven modules, which take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete.
The ideal candidates for this course training are newly hired mental health providers working in the Harris County Jail. This includes, but is not limited to: psychiatric technicians, psychiatric nurses, psychiatrist, psychologists, mental health therapists, mental health therapist- interns, caseworkers, social workers, and mental health volunteers. Although the training is required for all mental health providers, non-mental health staff may take part in training upon approval from ones’ supervisor.
